The Bunkers
A bus ride and short hike brings you to this special spot. El Carmel Bunkers were built during the 1930 Spanish civil war. This free viewing point offers an incredible 360-degree view of Barcelona. The best time to visit is sunrise or sunset, but be warned that it tends to get busier during the evening. Bring a bottle of vino, perch yourself on one of the old concrete platforms and bask in Gaudi’s architectural genius. This is a fantastic place to indulge in an afternoon picnic. There’s no better place to watch the city transform from day to night.
Park Güell
Situated below The Bunkers in the Gracia district, Park Güell is an obvious must-see for any visitor to Barcelona. This iconic view is surely the most photographed of city, with much reason. The combination of Gaudi’s brightly coloured monistic tile work, combined with the cityscape and Mediterranean Ocean is perfection. If you hike up to the highest point of the park, you’ll find the cross on top of the hill, which offers complete panoramic views of the city. Majority of the park is free of charge, apart from the Monumental Zone. Being a quint-essential photo op for tourists, we recommend buying tickets a day before to avoid missing out. If you’re a savvy traveller, the park is free before 8am and after 7pm.
Montjuic
Strolling around Montjuic Mountain you’ll be encapsulated by vast greenery and mesmerising ocean views on hand. While there are many varying spots, the best viewpoints here are 1.Miramar and 2.Alcalde. This mountain is home to the 17th century Montjuic Castle, The Botanical Gardens and Olympic grounds. It includes an Olympic swimming pool, (costing around €6 entry) which offers it’s own special view of Barcelona. Getting here is easy. You can catch the metro most of the way up, or if you want to travel in comfort while enjoying panoramic views, hop on a cable car leaving from the beach.
Tibidabo
Standing over 500 metres tall, Tibidabo Mountain is the highest viewing point in Barcelona. It is also the most interesting, due to the fact that you’ll discover more then just a view here. This is home to a fully functioning 18th centaury amusement park and the stunning Gothic-style basilica Sagrada Corazón. This is a one off experience and worth the small journey. Tibidabo can be reached by bus, car, or train then funicular.
Santa Maria del Pi
The 13th centaury Santa Maria Basilica is found in the Born district of Barcelona. As you enter, notice how the light pours through the stained glass windows, over the huge grey-scale soaring arches and onto the solid stone pillars. This is a Catalan Gothic style architectural masterpiece. As for the view, you can take a guided tour of the church that inevitably brings you all the way up to the rooftop for around €8. This view offers a completely different perspective compared to our previous suggestions. It gives you a close up view over the city, from the inside city.
