The newest Barcelona skatepark
The Barcelona Skate Park at Marbella is, hands down, the best skate park in Barcelona.
Scheduled for completion sometime next week, the Mar Bella Skate Park in Barcelona is almost finished… and we can’t wait!
We showed up unannounced a couple of weeks ago and were given a guided tour of the construction site. The visionary designer of the skate park, Sergi Arenas, showed us around and gave us an in-depth explanation of how he has made his dream, of bringing a world class skate park to Barcelona, a reality.
Barcelona has, for a long time, been the mecca of skateboarding in Europe and skaters from around the world have been making pilgrimage to Barcelona ever since the European skate scene was born. Barcelona skate spots like, MACBA, Paralel, Universitat, and the Forum are regulars in the most popular skate videos. And, Barcelona is the one location that is on the wish list of almost every skater around the world.
What Sergi Arenas has accomplished, with the help of Sergi Carulla, Oscar Blasco, the entire construction crew and the city council of Poble Nou and Barcelona, is to create a world class skate park on the beach in Barcelona, where the next generation of Barcelona Skater can take the sport and the Barcelona skate scene to the next level.
The Mar Bella Skate Park in Barcelona was designed to have different elements and different areas for skate boarders of varying skill levels and styles. At the top of the skate park there is a street skate area with stairs, rails and banks. At the other end of the skate park, closer to the beach, is the pool area, with a smaller pool for the beginners and a larger bowl section for the more experienced skaters. Connecting the two parts, with a gentel but racey downhill slope and smooth transitions is the snake.
We are also proud to say that the same Sergi Arenas who designed and envisioned this amazing project, helped us build the mini-ramp in our Barcelona Skate Hostel, Sant Jordi Hostel Sagrada Familia.
