One of the coolest Barcelona festivals of the year, The Sant Joan Festival in Barcelona is all about fire, fireworks and beach parties.
The 2012 Barcelona Sant Joan Festival will take place on the night of June 23rd and will celebrate the official beginning of summer. The Sant Joan festival is all about beach parties, bonfires and fireworks. And the best place to be to enjoy this Barcelona festival is on the beach. There are no central fireworks displays in Barcelona and there is no set program of events for the night. Instead, each neighborhood or district plans and organizes a set of events for their particular part of the city. That being said, we really recommend going to the beach and then ending the night in one of the many famous dance clubs in Barcelona.
The main party and largest gathering of people for the Nit de Sant Joan will be at the beach. The beach will be full of crazy people having wild celebrations and in years past the beach parties have attracted up to 75,000 people. The Nit de Sant Joan in Barcelona is a pretty hard core party and the beach on the night of the 23rd of June is not a place for children or the faint of heart. Expect lots of firecrackers, fireworks, and wild public drunkenness.
